Nenagh’s Injury Unit Remains Closed Due To Staff Absences

432

The Injury Unit at Nenagh Hospital remains closed today due to staffing shortages as a result of sick leave. The unit expects to resume service tomorrow and will operate from 8am to 8pm 7 days a week. The unit can be contacted at  067 42311.

UL Hospitals Group is advising people requiring treatment for minor injuries to attend the Injury Units at St John’s Hospital in Limerick, or Ennis Hospital, until the Nenagh unit is reopened.

Hospital management have apologised for the inconvenience caused by the temporary closure. Management at UL Hospital Group are urging people with minor injuries not to attend the Emergency Department at University hospital Limerick.

The Injury Unit in St John’s Hospital is open seven days, 8am-7pm, and can be contacted on 061-462303. The Ennis Hospital unit is open 8am-8pm and can be contacted on 065-6863121. The Minor Injury Unit at Cashel Hospital is open today and be contacted at 062 70400 – the Cashel unit operates between the hours of 8.30am – 5pm Monday to Friday.

Injury Units are for the treatment of minor injuries that are unlikely to need admission to hospital. Most injury units treat patients over 5 years of age. Injury units will not treat:

  • pregnancy-related or gynaecological problems
  • injuries to the chest, abdomen or pelvis
  • serious head and spine injuries

Each injury unit is linked to an emergency department (ED) in a hospital. If you are in an injury unit and need to be admitted to hospital, you will be referred directly to the linked hospital.  You can just turn up and walk in or your GP may refer you.

There is no charge if you have a full medical card or have a GP referral letter. Otherwise it costs €75 to attend an injury unit.
