Crews from Tipperary Town and Cashel Fire stations responded to a house fire in An Duiche Estate in Tipperary town last night. The alarm was raised by a neighbour at approximately 12.30am. It is understood that the house was rented by a family – all occupants of the house were safely evacuated and no injuries are reported.

Initial reports to the emergency services suggested that persons may have been trapped in the house – this report turned out to be wrong. Two ambulances also attended the scene with fire crews remaining on site until 5am today.  The fire began in an upstairs bedroom which is now significantly damaged and the house suffered extensive smoke damage. It is thought that the family will have to seek alternative accommodation in the short term.

At noon yesterday Retained Firefighters suspended Industrial action that consisted of 50% of all fire stations being “off call” – Tipperary town Fire Station would have been off call at the time of the incident in the absence of this development
