Cashel Chamber of commerce is welcoming planning approval that allows for a new facility for staff and management at the Rock of Cashel. Tipperary County Council planning authority has approved a material change of use of the Healthcare Centre on The Kiln, Cashel, to use for offices and associated staff facilities. The facility will be operated by the Office of Public Works(OPW).

Chamber President Martin Lynch says the staff, who process visitor admission and provide tours, have been managing and working with limited facilities for the last number of years.  357,273 visitors paid to view the historic building in 2023. Cashel Chamber is of the view that these new facilities will play a significant role in preserving and showcasing the rich history and culture of Cashel.

The project is one of a number of initiatives in train as Cashel is to become a new “Destination town”  in the Fáilte Ireland marketing strategy for tourism. An announcement is expected shortly on the selection of the site for a visitor centre. This centre is to support the application for UNESCO World Heritage status for the Rock of Cashel and to provide a home for elements of the Bolton Library.  In addition, a major upgrade of the public realm in the town centre is to start in the coming months alongside a new signage strategy. All measures are designed to increase the dwell time of visitors in the heart of Tipperary.
