Hospital of the Assumption Thurles

The campaign for the reinstatement of beds at the Hospital of the Assumption in Thurles has taken a new turn according to Deputy Michael Lowry today.

Deputy Lowry has said that money that was expected to be spent on reinstating beds that had been closed at the hospital last year is instead being spent on acquiring respite beds in private nursing homes.

Recently it was widely believed that breakthrough in the campaign had been secured with money being made available to fund the reopening of the beds.

However Deputy Lowry maintains that last Friday he ment with an HSE official who said such a commitment was never actually given at official level and that the €275,000 expected to be spent on the hospital, is going towards outsourcing beds in private nursing homes.
