Gardaí in Clonmel and Mullinahone are investigating the theft of a water pump from Cloneen Village. The theft occurred some time between Saturday afternoon, April 20th and Sunday evening, April 21st.
Garda describe the missing water pump as a historical part of Cloneen Village. The most recent photograph shows that the pump is painted dark green. It is thought that the pump has been at the location for over 100 years. The village is located on the R692 Regional Road, approximately 5km east of Fethard. Such cast iron pumps were operated manually and commonly installed over community water wells in the days before piped water supplies. Such pumps were often called “the parish pump”.
