A €60M EU grant programme to improve water quality is to be administered from Heffernan House in Rossmore village, Tipperary town.

The Local Authority Waters Programme (LAWPRO), in collaboration with Teagasc and Dairy Industry Ireland, were successful in their application to deliver a new Water European Innovation Partnership (EIP) Project for Ireland.

The new European Innovation Partnership Agriculture (EIP-Agri) project will involve advisors working with farmers on action to improve water quality with co-benefits for climate change and biodiversity.

The Local Authority Waters Programme is managed by Tipperary and Kilkenny county councils on behalf of the Irish State.

The EIP project will see a minimum of 6-8 full time staff in Heffernan House to administer the scheme nationwide.

It is also expected that Heffernan House will be a venue for national meetings of LAWPRO.

Some new staff are being hired in addition to a project manager moving from Kilkenny.

Although some staff are already on site the building is currently undergoing a refurb and signage is yet to be added.
