109 trainee Gardaí commenced their training at the Garda College, Templemore last week as efforts continue to increase the numbers of Garda available for duty. An Garda Siochana is to open a new recruitment competition on Monday January 15th. The new recruitment campaign will see applications accepted from those up to 50 years of age for the first time.
According to the Garda Commissioner’s most recent report to the Policing Authority on December 15th as of 30 November 2023, the Garda member strength stood at 13,882 and the Garda Staff number stood at 3,384. As of the end of November last year 157 Garda resigned in 2023 and 298 retired.
989 candidates from the 2023 Garda recruitment campaign who have been successful at interview have now commenced An Garda Síochána’s clearance process with a view to commencing training in the coming months.
