Local Farm To Host Major Event On Hedgerows

A farm near Cashel is to be the location for a major event in respect of hedgerows and why they matter. The free event is scheduled for January 13th.

Pat Maher, who farms near Freighduff, Cashel is providing the venue(E25 D211) for the morning time event organised by Hedgerows Ireland.

Hedgerows provide many useful services including shelter for livestock, help in preventing flooding,  habitats and food for birds, insects and smaller animals and can also store carbon.

The  event will include hedge cutting and hedge laying demonstrations by certified contractors Richard Markham and Philip Hickey, a Question and Answer session about TAMS(Targeted Agriculture Modernisation Schemes) payment schemes with Dermot Grogan from the Department of Agriculture, a talk on barn owls and other hedgerow birds by Aine Lynch and colleagues from Birdwatch Ireland, bird and bat box construction demo by Cashel Men’s Shed, natural textile dyeing using hedgerow plants by Lucy Moore, local honey by Gerry Ryan, hedgerow cordials by Irish Hedgerows ltd and brief presentations on hedgerows by Alan Moore, Jimmy Duggan and Pat Maher.
