HSE Looking To Recruit Two GPs In Co. Tipp

Two GPs are sought by the HSE to work in Tipperary according to an advert placed by the HSE.

One post relates to Thurles and has an attached patient panel of 1038 patients while the other is related to Templemore and would service a panel of 729 patients.

The advert seeks applications by February 20th with a midnight deadline.

Both towns have struggled in recent years to attract GPs to fill posts created by retiring GPS – both of these posts are to address similar vacancies.

A shortage of applications for rural GP posts was accepted by all local public representatives and the HSE following the closure of Dr Hennessey’s practice in Templemore last Summer.

The local community tried to find a GP that would be interested in relocating to the town without success. A

t the time the HSE came in for sharp criticism for it’s decision to quickly close the practice and transfer between 700 to 800 Medical Card Patients to another busy medical centre in the town.

The community had sought support from the HSE for a locum GP as had been done in Thurles for a period of over two years in an effort to maintain services. Full details of the posts are available on hse.ie/jobs.
