Macra na Feirme is describing the government’s plan to develop a new strategy for the future of dairy production in Ireland by the end of March as unworkable.

President and Tipperary based farmer John Keane is adamant that this is not enough time to develop a plan for the sector.

Mr Keane believes there’s a need for certainty for the sector and the option must exist for new entrants to the sector to invest with confidence.

The timing of the forum at the busiest time of the year in dairy farming and it does not provide a substantial opportunity for members to engage fully in government decisions affecting their futures and demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of the reality of farming.
