Man Charged In Relation To Fatal Assault In Dundrum To Appear In Court

The man charged in respect of a fatal assault in Dundrum on February 25th is to  appear at Nenagh District Court today.
Ivan Volkov with an address at 2 Holm Oak Cottages,  Dundrum was remanded in custody when he first appeared in court in Newcastlewest last Sunday.
The 65-year-old,who is here under the EU Temporary protection Directive  after fleeing the war in Ukraine, is charged with affray and assault causing harm to 69-year-old Shamil Nabiev from Azerbaijan at Dundrum House Hotel on the 25th of February.
Although the incident occurred on February 25th the victim didn’t go to hospital until Thursday February 29th. Mr Nabiev died in Tipperary University Hospital Clonmel from his injuries.
Dr Margot Bolster, the State Pathologist,  completed a post mortem examination on Sunday March 3rd.  Mr Volkov was arrested on Saturday March 2nd.  He claims he acted in self-defence. He has been in custody in Limerick Prison since his arrest.
