Newport Cllr John “Rocky” McGrath is to step down at the end of the current council term. Mr McGrath is a member of team Lowry –  a group of 5 councillors on Tipperary council associated with regional independent TD Michael Lowry.

Cllr McGrath is one of nine councillors elected to the Nenagh Borough council with 4 coming from the Newport LEA.  John McGrath was first elected to the then North Tipperary County Council  in 2009.  Mr McGrath says the time has come for him to step away due to a number of health issues and the level of commitment demanded during an election campaign.

The Local Elections are expected to be held on June 7th alongside the European Parliament Elections which must be held on a date between June 6th and 9th.
