Burncourt/Ballylooby Regional Water Supply Boil Notice Lifted

537

A Boil Water Notice on the Burncourt Regional and Burncourt Ballylooby Public Water Supplies has been lifted with immediate effect. Uisce Éireann reports that following consultation with the Health Service Executive, customers can now resume normal use of the public water supply.
The notice, which was issued in July affecting almost 4,000 people, was put in place to protect the health of customers due to the deterioration of raw water quality which impacted the treatment processes at the water treatment plant.

Residents and Public representatives have expressed frustration at the situation over several months given that the Water Treatment Plant is relatively new.  Cllrs Mairin McGrath and Marie Murphy have also criticised Uisce Eireann for a poor communication performance in making the public aware of the Boil Water Notice and remedial works were being undertaken.  Residents and Businesses in some cases were faced with an additional cost of purchasing bottled water while the Boil Water Notice was in place.  Cllr Murphy acknowledged that the notice was in place for almost 4 months and referred to a previous occasion when 46 residents were on a Boil Water Notice for 7 years. The Uisce Éireann Customer Contact Centre, open 24/7 is available at Freephone number 1800 278 278 to answer queries in relation to the lifting of this notice.
