Public Warned Of Presense Of Algal Bloom In Lough Derg

Tipperary County Council is warning of the presence of Algal Bloom on Lough Derg in recent days. 

The blue green algae bloom can produce harmful toxins and is most easily recognised when it forms a bright pea-green paint like scum on or close to the shoreline.  The Council is advising the public to exercise caution if in the waters of Lough Derg in the affected area.

Contact with this Bloom should be avoided as it may cause skin irritation. 

Animals, especially dogs should be kept away from the affected area and pet owners are advised to ensure animals have an alternative source of drinking water.
