Cork native Bambie Thug will perform their song Doomsday Blue in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song contest tonight.
The contest is being staged in Malmo, Sweden this year and Ireland will perform 4th in tonight’s event. TV coverage begins at 8pm. The top ten songs tonight will quality for Saturday night’s final. The second semi-final will take place on Thursday evening. Ireland has not qualified for the Final since 2018 and the last Irish win was in 1996.
The event has faced controversy for allowing Israel to take part due to the ongoing violence in Gaza. Two “alternative Eurovision concerts” have been organised in Galway and Dublin on Friday night by the Apartheid Free Arts and Irish Artists for Palestine in association with The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
