The Future of the Dean Maxwell Home in Roscrea is clouded in secrecy according to a Tipperary TD

Sinn Fein’s Martin Browne is making the comments after a meeting scheduled for yesterday with Minister Mary Butler and the HSE was cancelled at the last minute.

The Cashel based TD says the online meeting was presented as being one where clarity as to the future of the home would be provided to local Oireachtas members and councillors.

However Deputy Browne revealed that the meeting was to be attended only by a select few mostly along political lines – while many involved in the campaign to save the Dean Maxwell were not contacted.

Mr Browne is calling for the community and public to be informed about the future of the Dean Maxwell and believes that “The political tussling must end, and the focus must return to the needs of the people of Roscrea, and to delivering for them.

The Home was given permission by the HSE to accept long term stay residents for this year – concerns remain that the HSE will close the home for long term stay residents and provide this service in Nenagh in the future.

The facility needs investment to meet HIQA regulations.
