The Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers Association (ICSA) has said that the Beef Taskforce, will be ‘completely lost if it fails to tackle the crisis within the beef sector as a result of Covid-19’.

The organisation’s beef chair, Edmund Graham has been critical of the Department of Agriculture for not convening a meeting of the task force in response to the challenges presented as a result of the virus and efforts to limit its spread.

no future for producing beef at current prices’

Describing the EU’s response in respect of the beef-producing sector as ‘lackluster’, Mr Graham said that there is no future for producing beef at current prices.

He added that if the sector is to survive at all, then the Taskforce and all stakeholders need to convene through existing online conferencing platforms in order ‘to plot a way forward’, and he called for the Agriculture Minister to ‘make it happen’.
