The passing of the council budget for the coming year will determine whether the Canon Hayes Sports Centre will secure the €40,000 in funding which has been agreed to by the local authority’s officials.
Cllr Michael Fitzgerald said that the council’s budget is down €1.2 million this year because of a decision not to retain the LPT rate that applied last year.
He told Tipp Mid West today that despite this, €40,000 in funding has provisionally been included in the council’s budget for the Canon Hayes Sports Centre.
However, this will mean that plans for some other projects will have to be postponed, he added.
But the funding for the Canon Hayes centre will only be confirmed if the council members pass the budget at a special meeting this Friday
