Families in Co Tipperary are being encouraged to attend an event marking Heritage Week, which runs all this week.

Events are taking place to mark the history of this country on a local basis by focussing on its physical and cultural monuments and records.

Encouraging people to participate in the week Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture Tom Hayes has been reminding the public that the events locally include free tours of Roscrea Castle, the Swiss Cottage in Cahir and Nenagh Gaol as well as talks and exhibitions in the McDonagh Centre, The County Museum and Cloncannon Biofarm.

There will also be displays of stone carving and cast iron work at the Swiss Cottage and an evening with Seanachie John Carew in Tipp Town. Full details can be found on the Tipperary website www.tippcoco.ie or www.heritageireland.ie
