Exhibition On Ground-Breaking Tipperary Woman Opens For Heritage Week

267

The Excel Centre in Tipperary town is to extend it’s current Heritage Week Exhibition by two weeks given the special local interest. The exhibition features 11 information panels about Aleen Cust, born in Cordangan Manor near Tipperary town in 1868 – a woman who made history becoming the first female Veterinarian to be recognised by the Royal College of Surgeons. The ground breaking recognition came 22 years after she completed her studies – during her career she travelled to the Continent to care for horses in WW1. Ms Cust died in Jamaica in 1937.

The exhibit is located on the 2nd floor and is available free of charge Monday – Friday between 10am and 4.30pm.
