SEMRA appeal to people not to go into mountains unprepared

After a number of people had to be taken off Croagh Patrick over the weekend, suffering from mild hyperthermia, a spokesperson for the South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association has appealed to people not to go into the mountains unprepared.
A three-year-old child is believed to be among several people being treated for the condition after ignoring warnings issued by gardai and the rescue services that conditions were not suitable for the traditional hike on ‘Reek Sunday’.
Jimmy Barry of SEMRA said that Irish summers can bring with them weather that can pose particular dangers for people heading up into the mountains.
He appealed for people to heed warnings and to keep track of weather forecasts.  If people plan to go into the mountains, he added, they need to ensure they have water, the right clothing, equipment and a means of communication.
