South Tipperary Independent TD Mattie McGrath has once again called on the Government to legislate the scrap metal and ‘cash for gold’ industries.

He made the calls after the English House of Commons passed a Scrap Metal Dealers Bill last week similar to the Bill that he introduced to Dail Eireann last November.

Meanwhile, the Minister for the Enviroment Phil Hogan, today published for public consultation proposed new regulations on the trade in scrap metal known as the Waste Management Regulations 2012.

These Regulations would impose new obligations on operators of waste facility sites.  In particular, the  proposed measures aim to prohibit cash payments in respect of material received.
