Ardfinnan based Councillor Michéal Anglim, has said he intends to contest June’s Local Elections in the Cahir LEA for Fianna Fáil.

Cllr. Anglim had previously announced his intention to not seek re-election.

However, after speaking to party colleagues, Council colleagues, family and friends he has changed his mind and will stand for re-election in the Cahir LEA in the Local Elections in June.

Cllr. Anglim had indicated last week that his farm work and council work were putting pressure on his work/life balance and says that changing his mind is not something he has done lightly.

The Fianna Fáil councillor says he is taken aback by the number of people who asked him to reconsider his decision.

He has been a councillor in the Cahir LEA since 2013 when he was co-opted onto the Council after the death of his father Michael who served as a councillor between 1991 and 2013.

Micheal Anglim was re-elected in 2014 and 2019. The Cahir LEA will elect four councillors in the June election.

The LEA forms part of the wider Tipperary Cashel Municipal District with 7 other councillors to be elected the Tipperary Cashel LEA.

The elections will be held on Friday June 7th in conjunction with the European Parliament elections and a referendum on Ireland joining the EU Patent Court.

In addition, voters in county Limerick will vote to directly elect a Mayor for the county to take over many of the duties of the current Council Chief Executive Officer.
