Today is International Women’s Day.
The event was first held in 1911 and is a holiday celebrated annually on March 8 as a focal point in the women’s rights movement. International Women’s Day gives focus to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women.
Tipperary Community Services Centre on St Michael’s Street is the venue today for a coffee morning to benefit Women’s Aid – one in four women in Ireland is the victim of domestic violence.
Women’s Aid provides a 24 hour support line for women available at 1800 341 900.
The coffee morning will run between 11am and 1pm and is organised by the Tipperary ETB Further Education and Training staff located in the centre.
