Tipperary Cllr Tony Black says all suggestions are welcome as regards tackling anti-social and criminal behaviour. The Councillor was responding after a number of incidents especially in Tipperary town in recent weeks including assaults, break ins to cars/Marian Hall and intimidating behaviour by children making videos.
A local woman is calling for a fresh initiative after 5 attempts were made to steal her car over a 7-month period. Cllr Black says possible actions include community days to build links with local Garda and while information sessions on the damage caused by drug use are helpful as a priority he encouraged people to report all incidents to Garda.
The Tipperary town based Councillor also appealed to parents to set good standards for their children and to be aware of their activities. As to the causes of anti social behaviour Cllr Black says there could be a multitude of factors – isolation due to too much phone use, lack of community participation, changes due to Covid impacts and the misuse of drugs. Cllr Black says there seems to be a culture that there are no consequences for anti-social which needs to change to prevent the situation from getting worse.
