Appeal for people not to visit holiday favourites this weekend

A businessman from the seaside town of Kilkee has appealed to the public not to visit there until the current Covid-19 crisis is over.

Cillian Murphy, who is also a local councillor, said that as much as the town normally welcomes visitors, now is not the time.

‘Now is not the time’

He said that there are people self-isolating and cocooning in the town, and also noted that the medical services in the town would not be able to cope with an influx of people.

In appealing to the public not to visit the town this Bank Holiday weekend, he also called on the government to ensure that businesses, especially those in the hospitality and catering sector, will have the finances available to them that would enable them to remain as viable entities for the duration of the lock down, and which would help them to re-launch when the crisis abates.
