Retained firefighters in Tipperary town fire station and 5 other fire stations in the county are off call today as part of their dispute with management over a recruitment and retention crisis in the service.

Today the stations in Cahir, Cashel, Carrick on Suir, Thurles Templemore and Roscrea will respond to emergency calls that are deemed life threatening by Fire Service management.

These six stations will be off call on Wednesday. At present there are no talks taking place to resolve the dispute.

The SIPTU national committee is to meet tomorrow to consider if any further escalation is necessary. 50% of fire stations are closed for 24 hour periods on a rotational basis nationwide at present.

The public are advised to continue to call 999 or 112 in the event of an emergency.
