Public Meeting To Be Held On Future Of Ardfinnan Bridge

302

A public meeting is to be held in Ardfinnan tonight to discuss the future for Ardfinnan Bridge.

The community are angry that the National Transport Authority(NTA) has rejected a proposal for a separate pedestrian walkway to be constructed over the River Suir.

The NTA says it has “concerns about the robustness and objectivity of some elements of the options assessment process” leading to the proposal for a separate pedestrian bridge.

The NTA also says current transport policy and the likely cost of the project are factors in it’s decision to refuse to fund the project.

The NTA is proposing to make the current arrangement on the bridge with one lane dedicated to vehicles and a pedestrian walkway in the other lane a permanent arrangement. The meeting will be held in the community centre at 8pm this evening.

The NTA’s response to Tipperary County Council is shown below –
