County Tipperary has been allocated €1,120,177 in additional funding for upgrade works on rural roads and laneways. The funds will be distributed through the Local Improvement Scheme(LIS). Tipperary’s total allocation for this year under this particular Scheme is now €1.86M.

Tipperary TD Jackie Cahill is welcoming the funding and says the roads to benefit from this funding represent a vital piece of infrastructure for rural residents.

Deputy Cahill is also highlighting that the investment will make a huge difference in terms of access and connectivity and is urging Tipperary County to use this funding to clear backlog of applications. In total €16M is allocated across the country today for the LIS to fund repairs to non-public roads and lanes that are not normally maintained by local authorities.

The Scheme is funded through the Department of Rural and Community Development while the Department of Transport funds the Community Involvement Scheme which is currently taking applications until August 11th. Both schemes are intended to help rural communities to maintain roads and laneways to an acceptable standard. Full details are available on the council website here.
