Over 330 Children On CAMHS Waiting List In South Tipp

Labour Party TD Sean Sherlock has released updated details in respect to waiting lists for children trying to access supports from the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services(CAMHS)

The numbers cover Community Health Organisation(CHO) areas 3 and 5 which include North and South Tipperary. In CHO 5 including South Tipperary there are a total of 333 children on a waiting list and 132 of these are waiting over 6 months. In CHO 3 which includes North Tipperary with Clare and Limerick there are 376 children waiting, with 150 of these children waiting over 6 months.

Nationally there are 4,434 children and young people waiting for an appointment with the CAMHS service. Of these 682 are waiting over a year for mental health care.

CAMHS are services that provide specialist mental health treatment and care to young people up to 18 years of age through a multidisciplinary team. The service operates via referral from a GP.
