More than 1,100 Uisce Eireann customers in Littleton and Horse & Jockey are set to benefit from significant upgrade works getting underway in the coming days.

New water mains will be installed along the route between Graigue near Holycross and Ballymoreen, Littleton with the road (L4156) to be closed to traffic between 7am to 6pm daily. It is expected that this road closure will be in place for approximately seven weeks.

The proposed water main installation works is scheduled to commence in the coming days at the Graigue end of the scheme and will progress in an easterly direction until it reaches Ballymoreen by July 2024.

The following diversions will be in place. Traffic travelling west towards Holycross will be diverted towards Thurles on the N62, then turn left onto the L4017 Clongour and left again onto the R659 in the direction of Holycross. Traffic travelling east towards Moycarkey/Pouldine, will be diverted towards Thurles on the R659, turning right onto the L4017 and right again onto the N62 towards Horse and Jockey. Uisce Eireann says  local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.

The company has recently completed a 1.8km extension of the water network in Upperchurch to supply local homes and businesses from the Kilcommon water supply, along with the rationalisation of the Glengar/ Cappawhite supply to Ironmills which involved the construction of over 5km of new water mains.

Uisce Éireann has identified areas in County Tipperary where the existing drinking water infrastructure is not sufficient to meet demand or areas which are prone to restrictions which impacts the local community. It is prioritising these areas with a €2 million investment involving the construction of new water mains to connect areas, where water supply can be challenged, to a more reliable supply.
