Further details have emerged about the plight of three dogs rescued from a building in rural Tipperary yesterday by the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The three dogs are expected to make a full recovery although 2 of them are understood to be very fearful of human contact.

The alert was raised by a member of the public who made a complaint to the ISPCA who responded and secured a search warrant for the premises with the assistance of Cahir Gardai.

The conditions were described as deplorable. The floor was covered in dog faeces and raw meat.

The animals had no access to water or natural light. The floors in the building were damaged and hazardous the 3 dogs.

The dogs are now in the care of the ISPCA and an investigation is underway to try to identify the persons responsible for the neglect.

The ISPCA says any member of the public with concerns about animal welfare  should contact their helpline to report the matter. Their number is 0818 515 515. At this stage no decision has been made about rehoming the dogs.
