Work on the Tipperary Hills Enhancement project is to commence on July 17th.  Chairman of Tipperary Tidy Towns Group Paul O’Callaghan says the work will begin at the St Patrick’s Avenue entrance and will see the pathway upgraded to a 3m wide pathway to enable hearses to enter from St Patrick’s Avenue to reach St John’s Famine Graveyard.

It is understood that a local company, English Tarmac will complete the work on the pathway. Partial closures to areas of the Hills may occur during the project.

The overall project to upgrade the Tipperary Hills secured €500,000 from the Town and Village Renewal Scheme. The project also involves an upgrade of existing pathways, improved access for those with disabilities, the installation of a Peace Path and a dog exercise area as well as an upgrade of the kickabout area near the St John’s Graveyard. The area is also to be enhanced by additional planting to support biodiversity and improved signage is also included in the project especially at the top of the motte viewing point. The Tipperary Hills area extends over an area of 23 acres on the west side of the town Mr O’Callaghan says the entire project will be completed over a period of 2 to 3 months.
