Progress is expected to be made on the construction of a new Garda Station in Clonmel as a decision has been made to fund the project directly. The project was to be delivered in conjunction with a new Macroom Garda station and a new Children’s Court building as part of a Public Private Partnership.
Minister for Justice Simon Harris today confirmed that the Government has now resolved the matter of funding and the project is expected to go to tender in the short term with construction to start in 2024. Planning permission is already in place.
The development at the Kickham Barracks location includes offices, conference facilities, staff support facilities, custody areas, plant and associated ancillary spaces.
The news has been welcomed by Tipperary TD’s Jackie Cahill, Michael Lowry and Senator Garret Ahearn.
The planned Garda Station in Macroom is also approved for direct funding.
