Road Safety Protesters To Gather At Tipperary Crossroads

357

Campaigners for road safety improvements at the Barronstown Cross road, located on the N24 between Tipperary town and Limerick Junction are to hold a demonstration at the crossroads today. The group are asking that the Council identify and deliver safety improvements at the staggered junction. The group want options such as advance accident blackspot warning signs, a lower 60km/hr speed limit, the installation of Pedestrian Refuge Islands, a reduction in road width to prevent vehicles overtaking on the inside of traffic, CCTV cameras, traffic lights, extra Garda Patrols and the deployment of a Speed Enforcement van to be considered for the crossroads.

To date the Council say they are seeking collision data in respect of the area. Transport Infrastructure Ireland is responsible for the N24 road and says while it has identified possible improvements to sightlines at the cross roads it is awaiting a feasibility and options report from Tipperary County council. TII will have to approve and fund any measures to be delivered at the junction. The protest event is scheduled for 4.30pm today, Friday April 14th
