Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath has accused the Minister for Housing of staging a power grab in respect of planning legislation to be discussed in the Dáil tomorrow. Many members of the opposition have objected to the latest Dáil order of business for tomorrow and Thursday. The Dáil is due to break for two months holidays on Thursday – Deputy Paul Murphy said the government needed to do more on the cost of living crisis now rather than in September. The planning legislation is to be discussed with 67 amendments in a two hour session tomorrow with some of the amendments only being published yesterday. The Taoiseach has defended the government action saying some of the amendments are vital to increase housing supply by restricting the use of short term letting without advance planning permission. The Taoiseach outlined the recent actions to address the cost of living and promised further measures in the budget to be announced on September 27th.
