Hundreds of walkers are expected to arrive in the Glen of Aherlow over the weekend for the three-day Winter Walking Festival.
The event includes a variety of walks to suit all abilities and also offers an attractive social occasion as a great range of live music is also scheduled.
The event is organised by the Glen of Aherlow Fáilte Society in association with the Galtee Walking club.
Together they will provide 7 guided walks over the weekend starting on Friday night with a Night Walk to Christ the King – a gentle one hour walk beginning at 7.30pm.
All walks will begin from the Aherlow House Hotel which is the base for all activities and, when appropriate, buses will drop off and collect walkers from each walk.
The aim is to introduce as many people as possible to the locality in the home that they will return in the future to repeat the walk – perhaps in a different season and hopefully with additional walkers.
The Aherlow Fáilte Society is the tourism promotion group for the area and can be contacted at 062 56331.
The walks on Saturday and Sunday vary from A to C graded walks – the A walks for experienced walkers cover a distance of approximately 14km, the C walks cover a distance of approximately 7 – 11km.
The walks make full use of the local attractions such as Galtymore, Lake Muskry, The Dolmen Loop, Cush Mountain & Lough Borheen, Lough Curra and the Aherlow House loop.
Full details can be found on the website Aherlow.com All walkers must follow safety advice and register in advance for their chosen walk(s).
