Temperatures are expected to reach 30C in many parts of the country today. A Status Yellow – High Temperature warning for Leinster and Munster is in place and this will extend to the entire country from noon today until 6am on Sunday.

MET Eireann warms that this could cause heat stress in some people  and increase the risk of water related incidents as people use rivers, lakes, reservoirs and coastal waters to cool off.

There is also an increased risk of field or forest fires.

The hot spell has also created a demand for extra water as supplies reduce – Irish Water is appealing to people to conserve water as much as possible.

A peak temperature of 28.4C was recorded at Gurteen Agriculture College in Tipperary yesterday.

The college is one of 25 weather stations that compiles data for MET Eireann.

Full details of all the weather stations can be found here while hourly weather observations can be found here .

Drought conditions and fires are evident in several places across the continent in the Bordeaux region of France more than 1000 fire fighters are dealing with  a huge fire in the Gironde region.  Meanwhile in the UK a drought is set to be declared in several parts of England today.
