Senior health officials will go before the Oireachtas health committee next week to answer questions about a proposal that the Department of Health would fund a post in Trinity College for Dr Tony Holohan.

Robert Watt, General Secretary at the Department of Health  and the chief medical officer Dr Tony Holohan will go to the health committee next Wednesday to discuss the plan which has now been abandoned.

Dr Holohan has announced that he will retire from his post on July 1st.

The Minister for Health Stephen  Donnelly has confirmed that he is willing to appear before the committee to answer questions on the matter but not until an outside  review he ordered is completed in June. Mr Donnelly did not know about the Trinity plan prior to it’s announcement.
