Those living undocumented in Ireland will be able to apply to regularise their status.

Minister for Justice Helen McEntee says it’s a “once in a generation scheme” – applications, which must be made online will only be accepted until July 31st.

According to the Department of Justice, there could be up to 17,000 undocumented people living in Ireland, including up to 3,000 children.

Applicants will have to meet certain criteria to be eligible and decisions on early applications are expected by the end of the year.

Applicants are allowed to include a spouse or partner, and children aged between 18 and 23 in their applications.

Successful applicants will be allowed to access the labour market and can begin a path to Irish citizenship.
