An Independent Tipperary TD is calling for certainty for Leaving Cert students this year.
Deputy Michael Lowry voted against the Government last week on a Dail Motion that sought a choice of assessment methods.
Deputy Lowry says given that the exams are in 4 months’ time and yet the final format has not been decided is unacceptable.
The Thurles based TD cited the disruption to students, through illness, periods of self-isolation and teacher absences due to Covid along with difficulties with remote learning are grounds for special consideration for this year’s students.
He believes a fundamental review is needed as “testing the memory and ability of a student on a given day is not a fair means of determining the path for their future”.
