‘We’re barely ahead of the curve…’ Local pharmacist says social distancing is crucial.

People are being asked to ensure they follow social distancing guidelines.

The issue was raised by local pharmacist Shane Kelly this morning who said that the importance of social distancing cannot be stressed enough if we are to keep the number of cases of Covid-19 as low as possible.

The country’s health experts say that social distancing is vitally important to ‘flatten the curve’ of cases that are likely to emerge in this country.

While further cases of Covid-19 are inevitable, the health services want to avoid a sudden spike in cases, because this would put extreme pressure on the health services and could have implications for the health and wellbeing of many people, particularly the vulnerable and those with underlying health conditions.

To avoid such a surge in cases it is imperative that people abide by the guidelines set out by the Department of Health.

Shane Kelly told Tipp Mid West this morning that the rate of infection can increase incredibly rapidly.

So if we don’t want to see what is happening in some other European countries happening here, we need to take social distancing to heart and not put anyone at risk even if that means giving up sports with your friends or putting some distance between yourself and a vulnerable loved one…
