The efforts of search and rescue teams in locating a group of people missing on the Knockmealdowns over the weekend have been praised.

Two adults and three children aged between 8 and 12 got lost on the mountain over Clogheen on Saturday evening.

A major search operation was launched involving members of the South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association, the Waterford based Search and Rescue Helicopter and members of the gardai.

Over 40 people took part in the search.

Jimmy Barry of SEMRA is asking walkers to plan their hill walking carefully.
