Co Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath has called for the town of Clonmel to be assigned a more prominent role than it currently holds in the National Spatial Strategy .
At present Clonmel is given “county town” status in the economic development plan.
However, Deputy McGrath believes it deserves a more important place on the list than a lot of other towns which are currently above it.
He maintains the existing designation is hampering Clonmel’s ability to be included in plans to economically enhance the region
