A traditional local feast day is to be observed on Sunday February 18th at St Berrihert’s Kyle at Ardane near Bansha in County Tipperary.

St Berrihert sometimes referred to as St Berrahert  is an Anglo Saxon saint who made his way to Ireland in the  seventh century.  He is linked to several sites in Ireland including in Cork especially at Tullylease.

The location in Ardane may have been an ancient Burial Ground as there are many remnants of ornate crosses at the site. In 1946 the Office of Public Works gathered the crosses and interwove them to form a circular enclosure. This is referred to as the Kyle, there is also a bullaun stone at the site and a well close by. The well is more accurately described as a pond as it measures 20m in diameter.

The area surrounding the Kyle and Well can be described as boggy and intending visitors are advised to wear suitable footwear. Prayers are to be offered at the site at 2.30pm on Sunday.

The area is popular with visitors who leave ribbons, statues, medals and rosary beads at the site with visitors experiencing a sense of calm and peace at the location. Please see this link here for directions to reach the site and this link  here for more details about the site.
