Tipperary County Councillors will meet today to consider a draft budget for 2024.

The draft budget book has now been posted on the council website – available to view here.

The 40 Councillors are asked to consider a number of matters. The councillors can adopt the budget or propose amendments.

Two workshops have been held in recent days to examine where changes would be made or funding could be found for priorities raised by Councillors.

Councillors have also been asked to decide on the proportion of rates refunds applicable on vacant commercial premises.

The proposal before the councillors in the budget is that if the property has a rate payable up to €5,000 and the property is vacant then the rebate should be 100% and the owner pays no rates.

If the rates are between €5,000 and €10,000 the proposal is that the property owner should pay 20% of the rates and have 80% waived.

Finally, for vacant commercial properties with a rate lability of greater than €10,000 the proposal is that the owner will pay 40% of the rates bill and have 60% waived.

An early payment discount scheme of 6% up to a max of €600 for properties with a rates bill lower than €26,000 is proposed again for 2024 as a measure to support the business community in the county.
