Irish Rail is reporting good progress on works to resurface the rail crossing in Tipperary Town.

The crossing on Station road is used by trains travelling between Waterford and Limerick Junction.

The old tarmac material has all been removed now in a delicate operation to ensure no damage to the tracks.

The contractor will begin the tarmac work tomorrow morning after the departure of the 9.53am train to Waterford.

It is hoped that the road may be able to reopen on Friday morning ahead of schedule.

At present all vehicular traffic is diverted from Station Road  with HGVs routed via O’Brien Street and cars and LGVs to use the Link Road and the N24 Clonmel road.

Pedestrian access and access for those using wheelchairs or prams/buggies is possible at all times subject to ongoing work.

The overhead pedestrian bridge is open at all times.
