National Ploughing Championship Begins Today In County Laois

The National Ploughing Championships will commence today and run for 3 days at Ratheniska, county Laois.

The event will feature extensive trade exhibits and a wide range of state agencies taking the opportunity to promote their services. The Local Enterprise Pavilion will promote the best of Irish Enterprise with Go Lo Rugby flying the flag for county Tipperary – the device is a training aid to improve compliance in rugby tackling. The ALDI brown bread baking competition will be held in addition to several categories of ploughing competitions. 

It is also expected that Nephin Renewable Gas will reveal details of their expansion plans which is expected to involve the creation of a number of new jobs at it’s facility in the Tipperary Technology Park in Tipperary town.

Government Ministers are also expected to be on hand for the event. Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien and Michael Broderick, CEO of the First Home Scheme will be announcing details of the expansion of the First Home Scheme to include self-build homes. The First Home Scheme is a collaborative initiative between the State and Participating Lenders – Bank of Ireland, Permanent TSB, and AIB Group (AIB, EBS, and Haven Mortgages). Its objective is to bridge the gap for eligible Customers between their deposit and mortgage, and the price of a new home.
