SuperValu Sustainability Upgrade Leads To Huge Energy Savings In Carrick

SuperValu Carrick-on-Suir has revealed that a The business is working with the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland(SEAI)and says changes made have the energy equivalent of power for 20 houses for a year.  The Tipperary store used an SEAI grant to upgrade their refrigeration, combined with previous works in store amount to saving 88,000 KWH of energy per year, a 34% overall carbon reduction for the store. Store owner PJ Guinan says work on LED lights and refrigeration for dairy and off licence is making a significant difference for the business and the environment.

SuperValu Carrick-on-Suir is one of 25 stores nationwide who took part in the “Building Sustainable Communities” initiative this year, identifying and upgrading areas in their own operations which can be made to reduce energy costs, fossil fuel usage and greenhouse gas emissions. The combined energy savings from these stores is 3.7 million KWH, enough to power 880 Irish homes.

SEAI is highlighting the project to show how the retail sector can contribute to lowering emissions and also act to improve the financial performance of the business.
