Tipperary TD Mattie Mc Grath, leader of the Rural Independents is calling out the performance of the Government and particularly Health Minister Stephen Donnelly over the Government’s management of the National Children’s Hospital project.

The Tipperary TD says the Government has failed to make logical choices and efficiently oversee the allocation of public funds.

Deputy McGrath says that no one is being held accountable for the project and accuses Minister Donnelly of a dereliction of duty.

The TD repeats concerns expressed by Dr Roisin Healy that the project may not be ready for patients until 2030 making it the “world’s lengthiest construction and most expensive medical facility.”

Deputy McGrath also hit out at the contractors BAM for delays and an estimated 2,000 claims for additional payment the company has lodged totalling over €760M.

Deputy McGrath wants the Health Minister to take charge of the project and to bring some transparency to the final design, total cost and opening date.
